Writing with impact for professionals
Goals
The training course Writing with impact for professionals offers you a step-by-step approach to improving all aspects of your written work, whether it’s a report, a manual, a memo or any other document. On this course you will learn how to write by following logical steps from start to finish. Who is your audience? What’s the best structure for your text? You will also work on building sections and paragraphs, and on fine-tuning your sentence structure. Finally, you will learn to edit your own work. Along the way, we will provide you with useful and relevant checklists, which will continue to be helpful long after the course is over.
Program
Writing skills (report, manual, memo)
– How do you prepare to write a text: who is your reader?
– How do you write well-structured, coherent paragraphs?
– How do you formulate sentences with impact?
– How can you improve the fluency of your text?
– Using proper style: when should you use active or passive verb forms?
– How do you write concisely?
– Learn useful word combinations to enhance your vocabulary (collocations)
– Learn to identify and avoid common errors
– What to look for when editing your work
At the end of every course or workshop, we ask participants to share their opinions by completing an evaluation form. You will then receive an extensive report, which also incorporates the trainer’s experiences. The aim of the evaluation is to give you a fuller insight into the training program and any additional or advanced learning goals you may wish to fulfil.
Customized courses
Thorough preparation
Your employees will take a training course that is tailor-made for them. Course material is developed for each group, on the basis of intake forms and sample texts submitted by the participants. In order to form the clearest possible impression as a basis for our preparations, we like to receive as many texts as possible. These can be texts of all kinds: templates, letters, emails, memos or policy documents. If you have examples of best practice or of how not to go about things, we are more than happy to receive them. Your input gives us an insider look at the problematic aspects of the texts you are dealing with and helps us set the focus for the program. The trainer then gets to work on the texts provided and treats them as a basis for developing materials and exercises. Of course we are more than happy to incorporate any additional wishes or remarks you may have into our approach.
Online e-learning environment
We like to invite participants to make use of our electronic learning environment (ELO). The preparation, intake, and the course itself can all take place within this learning environment. This approach requires students to bring their own laptop to the sessions. Both exercises and relevant theory are made available to the students in the learning environment and access continues until three weeks after the end of the course. The learning environment is closed to other visitors, of course, and everyone’s individual privacy is guaranteed.
We encourage participants to take an active part in the course: while the sessions touch briefly on the key points of theory, the main emphasis is on learning by doing. Forget long lectures: instead you can expect an efficient dose of relevant information before getting straight to work on specially designed exercises, either individually or in groups.
