Description
Dr. Andries Richter (Environmental Economics and Natural Resources, WUR) and Dr. Ingrid van de Leemput (Aquatic Ecology, WUR) will share their perspectives on resilience and ways to study resilience of complex social-ecological systems such as coral reef MPAs. They will stress the role of feedbacks, path dependencies, and timescales, both from a socio-economic and an ecological perspective.
Speakers
Dr. Ingrid van de Leemput, Is an assistant professor at Wageningen University’s Aquatic Ecology and Water Quality Management department, at Wageningen University & Research. She focuses on developing simple models and statistical tools to understand resilience in complex systems, particularly those with alternative stable states and tipping points. Her research explores multivariate and spatially extended systems, where dynamics are more complex.
Dr. Andries Richter is an associate Professor at the department of Environmental Economics and Natural Resources at Wageningen University & Research. He works on coupled social-ecological systems, looking on particular at how dynamics in the natural system, the socioeconomic system and institutions governing those resources influence each other. His main field of scientific interest includes social complexity in resource management, in particular the evolution of social norms and cooperation, but also the governance of marine ecosystems.
