Who are we?

The Human Resources and Development department (HR&D) is part of the offices and centers that assist the management of the University of Aruba and the faculties in executing their core activities in education, research, and community services. This assistance consists of everything pertaining to human resources and development.

HR&D recruits, hires, and deploys every staff member (permanent and temporary) at the University of Aruba (UA). The HR&D assists UA in obtaining the necessary staff so that the university can function optimally.

Our activities

HR&D’s activities are organized in 3 main areas, namely:

• Strategic HRM
• Policies and procedures/HR metrics and analytics
• Employees’ relations and development

Vision

Our vision is “to attract, attach and engage” qualified personnel so that together we can help develop the UA into a modern, dynamic, innovative, internationally-oriented learning organization and help the University of Aruba reach its strategic goals.

Rearranging our DNA!

Since 2010, HR&D has been in a transitional phase.

Our intention is to place HR operations as much as possible in the hands of the employees and managers. Our freed time will then be used to focus on critical factors, which are needed to reach UA’s goals such as HR tools, internal communication, employees’ relations, policies and procedures, and HR metrics and analytics.

For the coming years, our priorities will be to “go back to basics” and implement some needed HR tools, such as modern job descriptions, which are simple, flexible, and transparent; performance reviews (“gesprekkencyclus”); HR-information system (AFAS) with a self-service feature, and start with HR-metrics and analytics to be able to assist the UA management, managers and employees better.
