Student academic recognition
At our university, we acknowledge and celebrate the achievements and successes of all our students. Our students are provided with different opportunities to be recognized and praised for their academic achievements, effort, and contributions to the school community. We believe that students should be rewarded for their achievements, to not only celebrate their successes but to also inspire and motivate them to achieve their learning potential and become good citizens.
Student Awards
Student Academics Award
The Student Thesis Award is a yearly event that has been taken place over 20 years at the University of Aruba. Research indicates recognition for effort and success improves motivation and encourages participation.
Student Ambassador Award (SAW)
Academic awards are often only distributed to those few students who achieve above and beyond. While this is important, it involves only a select few. Therefore, recognizing students for other qualities like effort, helpfulness, good attitude, leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with the UA and Aruban community operation as well, can increase self-confidence, offer a sense of accomplishment, and generate respect in a peer group. Having such a sense of accomplishment spurs improvement.

The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management Studies (FHTMS) recognizes with its Dean’s List Undergraduate students who have excelled in their studies during each semester. The event is held bi-annually and celebrated with a “Dean’s List Breakfast” for students with a grade point average of 3.50 or higher (3.25 or higher for Freshmen) earned on a minimum of 12 credited semester hours.
According to the FHTMS dean John Wardlaw: “To be part of the Dean’s List requires much dedication and determination. The student must show abilities that both academics and professionals in the community value. This academic standard and honor is a reflection of each student’s hard work and the work of the complete staff.”
