Introduction:

In this presentation we will gain insights into the latest and upcoming legal developments regarding the social transformations resulting from the use of information technology.

Description:

1) Digital Society – Understanding legal responses to technological change

  • How does digital technology transform society?
  • How well are legal disciplines equipped to address challenges as a result of these changes?
  • ⁠Where do we start, the legal discipline, the digital innovation or the transformation of society?
  • (Legal) strategies to address novel challenges created by social change due to digital innovation.

2) Regulating Cybercrime and Cybersecurity

  • Relevant basic elements of computers, digital information and internet technology.
  • ⁠International and comparative perspectives of the law regarding cybercrime and cybersecurity.

Speaker:

Dr. Glenn A.E. Thodé, former Rector of the University of Aruba from 2012 to 2021 and currently Associate Professor criminal law, teaching in national and international law in criminal procedures and cybercrime at University of Groningen, member of Boards of financial supervision – member proposed by Bonaire, Statia and Saba, chairperson Committee supervision personal data protection BES and chairperson Foundation interinsular slavery history consideration.

Shortly ago dr. Thodé was also part of the: Advisory report to the Slavery history dialogue group advisory board , Advisory report to the Government of The Netherlands regarding prevention of discrimination and equal treatment , Chairperson of State committee social minimum Caribbean Netherlands , Vice-chairperson of State committee demographic developments 2050 – Caribbean Netherlands report.
