Lecturers
Andy Gillentine is a Professor in the Department of Sport and Entertainment Management at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Gillentine received the Mihalik Global Scholar Award in 2022 for his commitment to Global studies and activities to enhance and expand opportunities and the academic study of the Global Sport Industry. In 2017, he was awarded the Sport Management Scholar Lifetime Achievement Award by the Applied Sport Management Association. He was named Distinguished Sport Management Educator in 2012 by the North American Society of Sport Management and in 2009 received the Sport Management Outstanding Achievement Award from the National Association of Sport and Physical Education. In the fall of 2022, Dr. Gillentine was awarded the Michael J. Mungo Teaching Award in recognition of his commitment to innovative and quality educational instruction. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in sport management curriculum and program development and has participated in sport management program and curricular enhancement activities in more than a dozen countries. During his career in the sport and entertainment Industry, he has developed, organized, managed, and evaluated hundreds of sport and entertainment events and overseen the operation of dozens of sport and entertainment facilities over the last four decades. Additionally, he is recognized as one of the leading experts in the study of the legal, managerial, and marketing aspects of tailgating. He has conducted research projects for numerous sport organizations that have resulted in over 50 publications, four books and over 150 national and international presentations.

Stephen L. Shapiro is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Sport and Entertainment Management at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Shapiro’s line of research is in the areas of sport marketing and finance, with a focus on ticket pricing in the primary and secondary markets and consumer behavior as it relates to both purchase behavior and mediated consumption. Specific research topics include trends and consumer response to demand-based ticket pricing in sport, luxury suite price determinants, sport gambling consumer behavior, consumer demand in sport, and fantasy sport consumer behavior. Dr. Shapiro has published articles in leading sport management journals including the Journal of Sport Management, Sport Management Review, Sport Marketing Quarterly, European Sport Management Quarterly, the Journal of Sport Behavior, the International Journal of Sport Marketing and Sponsorship, and other notable journals. He has also authored or co-authored chapters in seven sport management textbooks. Additionally, Shapiro is a Research Fellow with the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM), the Sport Marketing Association (SMA), and the College Sport Research Institute (CSRI). He has also participated in numerous grant-funded projects for sport organizations worldwide, including the Charlotte Hornets, FC Cincinnati, the Virginia Tourism Corporation, the National Kidney Foundation of Florida, the US Department of State, the International Cricket Council, the Norfolk Tourism Research Foundation, the Denver Nuggets, and the Colorado Avalanche.
